April Writing Prompt Contest

Congratulations to Anthony James Larrea, our March Writing Prompt Contest Winner!

Anthony is also the winner of our first quarterly drawing, and has won a print copy of our debut Issue: Fools.

The march came in like a lion, ten thousand boots striking left-right-left, pounding the earth. Each arm swung to the guttural growl of a sergeant’s commands, corporals fore and privates aft. The columns split down their middle, flanking us, then surrounding us.

We trembled in our bunker, food spent, cold creeping in, cold filling the walls and floors and air we breathed. “Cold,” he said. “No power, no water. No surrender. Just five hundred rounds. What now?”

“We go down,” I say. “We die like warriors,” I say. “Give me that gun.”

God was a bullet, that day.

The April Writing Prompt is:

“Fortunately, the prank went horribly wrong.  And the joke was on…”
